The fine folks at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival hosted the month-out press party this morning at the New Orleans Fairgrounds. The 2024 festival features music from Colombia as part of the Expedia’s new sponsorship of the Cultural Exchange Pavilion. The local psychedelic cumbia band played two songs to the assembled members of the media and representatives of Jazz Fest’s corporate sponsors as well as community leaders and politicians.
Walt Leger, the CEO of New Orleans & Co, the local tourism agency called the Jazz Fest the “Superbowl of Culture,” referencing the festival as a lead up the city hosting the actual NFL Super Bowl next year. Quint Davis, the longtime producer/director of the Jazz Fest talked about the long-awaited appearance of the Rolling Stones by saying, “the third time’s charm.” The Stones had to cancel in 2019 and were preempted by the pandemic in 2020.
