Thanks Jay--you and your notebook help keep alive so much that is still vital in the local music scene. And speaking of which, Kevin was so central to so much that was really happening. He kept a lower profile the last few years while playing almost everyday at Café Beignet on Bourbon Street, but he brought the same enthusiasm (not to mention talent) to those gigs as to any other. He might not be well known in the larger world, but the music world of New Orleans knows it lost a giant.
I’m reading this in Dublin, where Kevin and I spent a few laughter filled days 30 years ago after a gig w the Klezmers in London. It pains me that I can’t call Kevin and ask him to help me remember that moment. Next best thing I suppose is reading your memorial.
I hear ya- I think of him often- thanks for the props and for subscribing- things are slow now as you know, but you can always check out my archive for more history.
Oh Man....Sorry to hear this news..Played with Kevin several times and totally enjoyed every time we played.RIP Kevin and see you on the other side my brother!
Kevin was also in Michael Ray & the Cosmic Krewe, which was a band filled w great musicians.(he's wearing a Cosmic Krewe t-shirt in the All That photo above.)
Thank you Jay! He adored you.
Man I miss Kevin! Thanks Jay. Still have a Live Animals poster I did the art for.
Glen David Andrews got the crowd chanting his name at the Midnight Disturbers set last weekend!
Thank You Jay….RIP Kevin of the Day
Loved the set at zony by the way- Arsene was really killing it!
Beautiful, Jay. I can't believe Kevin is gone. R.I.P.

Indeed! So many bands- I am writing the formal obit for OffBeat and will include that
Great tribute Jay. He was amazing and New Orleans will not be the same without him.
Thank you!! It was very cathartic to write- I will have a more formal, less personal obit in the April OffBeat
tremendous soul, terrible loss
I know how much you’ve loved his music, got to be heartbreaking to write, but it’s a beautiful tribute
Thank you! It was actually very cathartic
