Jazz Funeral for Glen "Big One" Andrews
Father of trombonist/vocalist Glen David Andrews passed away at 73
Members of the extended Andrews musical family came out to the Charbonnet Funeral Home in Tremé to honor the life of one of the patriarchs. “Big One” was also the stepfather of snare drummer and Roots of Music founder Derrick Tabb and the uncle of trombonist/trumpeter Troy “Trombone Shorty” Andrews, trumpeter James Andrews and numerous other musicians.
Revert “Peanut” Andrews (above) and James Andrews (below) lead the procession out of the funeral home.
“Peanut” and saxophonist John “Prince” Gilbert blow on “A Closer Walk With Thee” for the deceased on St. Phillip Street.
Following the dirge, the band launched into “Didn’t He Ramble.” Andrews’ brother James “12” Andrews led the way as the procession “made the block” and returned to Tuba Fats Square.
The pallbearers took the coffin out of the back of the horse-drawn hearse and set it down on the grass while Spy Boy Ricky played his tambourine.

The procession continued to Dumaine and N. Claiborne as they sent him off to his final resting place in Resthaven Cemetery to the strains of “Over in the Gloryland.”
RIP BIG GLEN! The Real Mayor of the 6.
